About the course
A1 & A3 – Basic Open Category Drone Certifications
The Open category of drone operations is divided into three subcategories: A1, A2, and A3.
A1 Category:
Allows flying above uninvolved people (occasionally and briefly), but not over crowds.
Flying above buildings is permitted.
This category includes drones with a maximum takeoff mass of up to 900g, bearing a C0 or C1 class identification label.
A3 Category:
Flying over or near uninvolved people is strictly prohibited.
A minimum distance of 150 meters must be maintained from uninvolved persons, buildings, industrial sites, and recreational areas.
This category applies to drones weighing between 4kg and 25kg, with a C3 or C4 class identification label.
The maximum allowed flight altitude for both categories is 120 meters AGL (Above Ground Level), measured from the nearest point on the ground.
The combined A1/A3 certification serves as the mandatory entry point to all other Open subcategories, including A2. These two categories are examined together as a single module, not separately.
